My name is Jeanne Roughface.  I have been in and around the trucking industry for the past 20+ years from lumping to broker/agent.  I have heard time and time again that carriers/owner-operators think that shippers only work with brokers.  THIS SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE.  That is what this “Shippers Directory” is all about, shippers that work directly with outside carriers.

Have you heard the story about the famous industry tycoon? He's owned brokerages, trucking companies and has been an owner-operator and driver in his 30 years in the trucking industry. He revolutionized the brokerage industry and runs a large and famous school for brokers. His advice to truckers is "Don't run brokered loads. Set up directly with shippers and run their loads regularly, cutting out the middleman.  If you run brokered loads from point to point around the US, you'll go bankrupt."

Done the math?  Let's look at a $5400 load at a 20% cut.

If you move only 1 of these loads a week, that comes to $56,160 a year that you are allowing to the broker. 

Don't get me wrong, brokers work hard for their commission and we're not here to criticize them.  But the fact is that brokers and high fuel cost are draining the profits of the trucking industry. What's more, brokers have no liability on cargo claims. So… our question to you is, why use them unless necessary?

Getting set up with a shipper is absolutely no different than getting set up with a broker.  Even though a lot of shippers pay on delivery, some shippers can take up to 30 and even 45 day's to pay. This is where your factoring companies come in. Factoring Companies only charge on average 1%-5% to get you paid in 24-48hrs., which makes your day's pay no longer an issue.

If you are using a broker that offers "quick pay", they are most likely using a freight factoring company to do so. This means that not only are you paying them 20+% commission, they also charge you the 1%-5% for the "quick pay". You can get the "quick pay" without the use of a broker by simply working with the factoring company directly.

WARNING- There are several shipper databases available on the market.  They are sold by subscription and by state.  These databases are cram packed with shippers but, not only are they very expensive, they are most beneficial to the broker.  There are very few shippers in these data bases that work directly with carriers.  You would have to thumb through 1,000’s upon 1,000’s of shippers to find the ones that work directly with carriers.  100% of the shippers listed in JR’s “shippers directory” work with outside carriers.
